How can we help?
Answers to common questions are below. For anything else, email [email protected].
Have a site on hold right now?
You have about 30 minutes in total (zenCamp extends the hold once), so book it now rather than waiting on an email reply.
On Recreation.gov
- The site is already in your own cart. Sign in to Recreation.gov with the account you linked.
- Open your cart, or tap Complete booking in the zenCamp app or your alert.
- Review it and finish checkout before the cart timer runs out.
On ReserveAmerica
- Sign in to ReserveAmerica first. While we hold the site it's locked for everyone, you included, so it won't show in your cart yet.
- Tap I'm Ready on the scan in zenCamp, or use the link in your alert, to release it to you.
- The site reopens within seconds: add it to your cart and book it right away.
Frequently asked questions
Coverage and alerts
zenCamp supports Recreation.gov — 3,336 campgrounds and 70,196 sites nationwide, covering national parks, national forests, BLM land, and federal recreation areas — and ReserveAmerica — 2,339 campgrounds and 48,000 sites across 20 states, covering state and county parks, group camps, and cabins. Coverage is US-only for now; Canada may be added later. Washington, Arizona and Florida state parks and ReserveCalifornia are coming next. Email us to request another.
You can scan for tent sites, RV/drive-in sites, cabins, group camps, and walk-in sites — depending on what the campground offers. When setting up a scan you choose which site types are acceptable, so zenCamp only holds something you'd actually want.
zenCamp sends instant alerts via email, Telegram and web push. Email notifications include the campground name, site details, available dates, and a direct booking link. Telegram and web push deliver real-time alerts to your phone or browser the moment a match is found — ideal for time-sensitive availability. SMS is coming soon. Quiet hours are set once for your account, in Settings.
We scan for cancellations up to every 15 seconds across the largest reservation systems, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But scan frequency matters less than what happens when a site opens: we add it to your cart within seconds, so you're not racing other campers to click first. The cart hold gives you about 30 minutes to open the alert, review the site, and complete your booking yourself.
Scans and cart holds
Yes. How many you can run at once depends on your plan: each tier lists its number of active scans on the pricing page. The limit counts scans rather than campgrounds, so several weekends at one campground use several of them. Every scan targets its own campground, date range, and site types. If you want to camp on any of several weekends, set up a scan per date window and we'll hold whichever opens first.
Occasionally a site will appear available but be claimed by another user in the same moment. When this happens, zenCamp immediately re-queues the scan and keeps watching. You'll receive a notification when a cart hold succeeds and a heads-up if an attempt fails, so you're always in the loop.
The first time a hold on a site runs out, zenCamp goes back to scanning and will try to hold that site again if it's still free. If a hold on the same site runs out a second time without a booking, we stop holding that site on that scan (sites you've favorited are the exception) and let you know. You can undo that from the scan's Excluded Sites tab. If you already know a held site isn't for you, exclude it from the scan in the zenCamp app, or answer No when we ask whether you booked it, and we'll stop holding it. The current hold still runs out on its own.
From your dashboard, open the scan's menu and choose Archive or Delete, or Pause while it's scanning. Any of them stops the scan right away and frees its slot on your plan. Pause or archive it if you might want it back; Delete removes it for good. Release scans (in beta, for dates that haven't opened for booking yet) work differently: open the scan and click Cancel, any time up to about 90 seconds before the dates open. If a cart hold is already in progress, it may still complete — email us at [email protected] and we'll help sort it out.
Your account
Linking a Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica account is optional. You need it for cart holds and trip import; browsing campgrounds and getting alerts work without one. When you link an account, its credentials are used only to sign in to that reservation site and hold a matching site in your cart — you complete every booking yourself. Booking-site passwords are stored encrypted, zenCamp staff can't see them (or your zenCamp password), and we never share them or use them for anything else.
Yes. zenCamp acts through your own account, using your credentials exactly as you would — it just acts faster than a human can. We don't use bots that impersonate multiple users or circumvent access controls. You complete every booking yourself, so your reservations are fully legitimate.
Every account starts with a 14-day free trial, and you don't need a credit card to sign up. When the 14 days are up, scanning and cart holds pause. Your scans, trips and settings stay as they are, and you can still sign in. Paid plans aren't open yet while zenCamp is invite-only, so email us when your trial ends and we'll work out next steps with you.
